Fabrics of the Future Flash (712kb)

There are a number of activities to support the students in their work and planning for the assignment. The first activity; Tuning in, gets students to consider how their lives will be different in 2030. By imagining different aspects of life and relating it back to student experiences, it assists students to think more deeply about the context of the assignment. This activity can be supported by the short animation ‘fabrics of the future’ which helps students to think creatively about the task.

Activity 2: Plan of Magazine

In activity 2 the students map out their assignment. This can be done as a class activity to be submitted by the end of the lesson, or as a homework activity to be submitted by the end of the first week. Its purpose is to enable students to plan out the content and to consolidate their thinking about their magazine.

Activity 3: Media Analysis

The purpose of the third activity is to allow students to critically evaluate a resource. This is done through analysing a chosen article in terms of the intended audience, issues raised and any scientific terms used that require definition.

Activity 4: Website evaluation

As this assignment is based upon Nanotechnology in the near future, students will primarily be using websites to source information. Therefore activity 4 aims to assist students in assessing the value of these website resources in terms of relevance, content and authority.
